Dortmund, Germany, December 7, 2011 / B3C newswire / - Protagen AG, a specialist for in-vitro diagnostics and GMP-compliant protein analysis, and Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, a global leading specialty pharmaceuticals company, announced today the start of a new collaboration project for the clinical validation of diagnostic biomarkers in Endometriosis.
This new cooperation project builds on the results of the Endometriosis biomarker discovery study performed last year, and is already the third UNIarray® Project within the collaboration between the two partners in the last three years.
Endometriosis is a debilitating gynecological medical condition occurring in roughly 5% -10% of women worldwide. The golden standard of diagnosis is currently performed by laparoscopy, a visual inspection of the abdominal organs followed by surgical removal and examination of lesions. Aim of the current study is to employ the UNIarray® technology for the predictive diagnosis of Endometriosis and to improve patient’s quality of life. In order to understand the biochemical and molecular biological processes of Endometriosis, new technologies like UNIarray® are becoming increasingly important.

Protagen baut Kooperation mit Bayer HealthCare aus
Dortmund, 7. Dezember 2011. Der Dortmunder Spezialist für in-vitro Diagnostik Protagen und Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, ein weltweit führendes Spezialpharma-Unternehmen, gaben heute im Rahmen ihrer bestehenden Kooperation den Beginn eines neuen Projekts zur klinischen Validierung diagnostischer Biomarker für Endometriose bekannt. Das neue Kooperationsprojekt baut auf Ergebnissen des im letzten Jahr gemeinsam durchgeführten Endometriose Biomarker-Discovery Projektes auf und ist bereits das dritte UNIarray® Projekt in der Zusammenarbeit beider Partner in den letzten 3 Jahren.
Endometriose ist eine chronische, aber gutartige Erkrankung, an welcher weltweit etwa 5% -10% aller Frauen leiden. Der diagnostische Goldstandard ist hierfür bislang die Laparoskopie (Bauchspiegelung) und Biopsie gefolgt von der chirurgischen Entfernung von Endometrioseherden und Zysten. Ziel der aktuellen Studie ist es, unter Einsatz der UNIarray®-Technologie Autoantikörper-Muster im Serum von Patientinnen für die Diagnose von Endometriose zu nutzen, um so die Lebensqualität durch frühzeitige Therapie zu verbessern. Zudem gewinnt die Untersuchung der Endometriose zugrunde liegenden molekularbiologischen und biochemischen Prozesse zunehmend an Bedeutung.
