Prevention in elderly care through computer-based, therapeutic training programs:

  • Playing with memoreCare leads to a strengthening of mental performance, stance and gait safety as well as motoric skills, endurance and coordination.
  • By the end of 2021, the therapeutic video games will be used in 50 in-patient care facilities in Baden-Württemberg

HAMBURG, Germany, August 12, 2021 / B3C newswire / -- The digital health company RetroBrain R&D reaches another important milestone in the field of prevention and health promotion according to §5 SGB XI (German Social Security Act) with the preventive training programs "memoreCare". Thanks to the support of the AOK Baden-Württemberg, 50 inpatient care facilities will be equipped with the memoreBox at the start of a long-term cooperation. For this purpose, the in-patient care facilities can submit an application to the AOK BW to claim prevention funds as part of prevention projects. RetroBrain R&D is in charge of managing the individual projects. The memoreBox is a gesture-controlled game console with digital health training, which was developed especially for seniors in the context of prevention and health promotion in care facilities. A nationwide evaluation of its effectiveness was successfully concluded in December 2020. The evaluation showed that the physical and cognitive performance of the users was strengthened. The ability to care for themselves and perform general activities independently improved significantly, and participants were motivated to interact with others. The game modules, such as bowling, table tennis or dancing, can be operated intuitively and without a controller and also promote and challenge the psychosocial health of the residents through regular group activities.

Jutta Ommer-Hohl, Head of Staff in the Customer and Health Division at AOK Baden-Württemberg: "After the positive evaluation of the memoreBox in in-patient care facilities, we would like to give care facilities in Baden-Württemberg the opportunity to use sustainable preventive approaches with digital tools. We consider RetroBrain’s video games to be a target-oriented and special tool for strengthening cognitive and physical performance and therefore support their use."

Dr. Christian Goergen, Managing Director of RetroBrain R&D, comments: "We are very pleased to have gained another major partner in AOK Baden-Württemberg. The funding from AOK Baden-Württemberg shows that our digital health training solutions are continuously becoming established in German nursing homes."
